Expert Contact Lens Fitting in Vancouver, BC

Our Marpole, Vancouver clinic fits every major contact lens type: daily disposables, toric lenses for astigmatism, bifocal and multifocal lenses for presbyopia, gas permeable lenses, Ortho-K overnight lenses and hard-to-fit specialty lenses. A contact lens fitting includes corneal measurement, tear film screening, trial lenses and follow-up — more than a standard glasses exam.

Why a Contact Lens Fitting Is Different From a Glasses Exam

A contact lens rests directly on your cornea, so a proper fitting starts where a glasses exam ends. We measure your cornea’s curvature and diameter, screen your tear film — poor tear quality is the number-one reason people give up on contacts — then select the right material, geometry and wearing schedule for your eyes and your life. We verify the fit on your eye under the slit lamp, teach insertion and removal if you’re new, and send you home with trial lenses. At a follow-up visit we confirm comfort, vision and corneal health before finalizing your prescription. That process is why our long-term wearers stay comfortable for decades.

Contacts Feel Dry by the Afternoon?

That’s usually a tear film problem, not a lens problem — and it’s fixable. During fittings we photograph your meibomian glands with digital meibography, and if gland dysfunction is behind your discomfort we can change lens materials, adjust wearing schedules or treat the underlying dry eye directly with IPL or radiofrequency. Most “contact lens dropouts” we see didn’t need to quit — they needed their dryness treated.

Teens, Sport and First-Time Wearers

Contact lenses are often life-changing for teenagers — sports, self-confidence and convenience — and daily disposables make hygiene simple. For nearsighted kids and teens, specific soft multifocal designs and Ortho-K also slow myopia progression while correcting vision. Every first-time wearer gets hands-on training and a practice period before we finalize anything, and parents are part of the conversation throughout.

Why Buy Your Lenses From an Eye Clinic?

The Canadian Association of Optometrists strongly advises against purchasing lenses from unknown online sources, which carry real risks: counterfeit products, wrong parameters, contamination, no prescription verification and no aftercare. Every lens we supply is Health Canada-approved, matched exactly to your fitting, and backed by professional support if anything feels off. We offer direct insurance billing where your plan allows, and convenient reordering once your fit is established.

Caring for Your Lenses (and Your Eyes)

Good habits prevent almost all lens complications: wash and dry hands before handling, never top up old solution, replace your case every three months, keep lenses away from tap water and pools, and follow your replacement schedule — a monthly lens is not a “whenever it feels fine” lens. Daily disposables remove most of these risks entirely, which is why we recommend them for many wearers. If anything feels off — redness, pain, light sensitivity — take the lens out and call us the same day.

Renewing Your Prescription

Contact lens prescriptions in BC are typically valid for one to two years. Renewal is a streamlined re-fit exam: we recheck your vision, confirm the lens still fits a healthy cornea, update parameters if your eyes have changed, and refresh your supply. Book a contact lens exam or call or text (604) 777-7579 — mention whether you’re a new or returning wearer so we book the right amount of time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Fitting fees vary with complexity — standard soft lens fittings cost less than specialty fittings like torics, multifocals or Ortho-K. Most extended health plans cover contact lens exams, and we direct-bill most major BC insurers. Call or text (604) 777-7579 for current fees.

Yes. Toric contact lenses are designed for astigmatism, and today’s daily disposable torics are stable and comfortable for most prescriptions. A proper fitting ensures the lens doesn’t rotate and blur your vision.

Not unless they’re specifically approved for overnight wear. Sleeping in daytime lenses starves the cornea of oxygen and multiplies infection risk. The exception is Ortho-K — lenses designed to be worn only while you sleep, under professional monitoring.

Usually not. Keratoconus, high astigmatism, presbyopia and dry eye all have modern lens solutions — GP, scleral-type specialty designs, multifocals and treated-dry-eye refits. Hard-to-fit fittings are a specialty of our clinic.

There’s no fixed age — responsibility matters more than birthdays. Many children succeed from about age 10–12, and myopia-control lenses are fitted even younger under close supervision with parent involvement.
